A Lucasville area man is dead and Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his office is investigating a murder.

Dead is Ronald Cox, 67, of 631 Little Egypt Road.

“We got a call at about 12:18 a.m. Saturday morning and arrived at the scene of the murder at 12:30 a.m., a response time of about 12 minutes,” Donini said. “The victim owned property across the street from his house, and the tenant called us and told us Cox was injured and bleeding.”

Donini said they found Cox severely beaten.

Donini said his investigators speculate the motive probably was robbery. He also said there was no forced entry.

“We are not sure when the murder occurred, but we speculate around four hours before the body was discovered,” Donini said.

The sheriff, captains, detectives and other personnel stayed on the scene well into midday Saturday.

“We have not made an arrest yet, but we are continuing to investigate this purely as a murder,” he said.
